Serve for Hope Uganda is a registered NGO dedicated to a holistic transformation of communities by empowering vulnerable women and children to achieve their full potential in society.

The core philosophy of our coordinated efforts towards this holistic transformation is based on the belief that "when an individual is empowered, the family as a unit becomes more functional and as a result, there is a complete community transformation".

Since 2014, we have contributed towards change in both families and individuals whose lives have been and continue to be transformed in their communities.

Our programs

one mother at a time

One Mother at a Time was initiated in March of 2015 to empower single mothers to achieve self-sustainability and improved education for her child(ren) while enhancing their wellbeing. Serve for Hope Uganda provides each mother with finances so that she can invest in income-generating activities and develop practical skills. After the first three months, each mother is expected to contribute toward her child’s educational costs, while re-investing in her business and providing for the basic needs of her family. We are partnering with local micro-finance institutions to help manage the women’s savings. Many of the women participating in this program are illiterate, lacking education, and have been affected by domestic violence. The program aims to establish a support network of mothers in the community in which the women can share experiences.  In addition, mothers involved in One Mother at a Time have access to psychosocial counseling and rehabilitation for those living with HIV/AIDS.

We believe that in order to have functional families in the community, mothers have to be empowered and their welfare promoted. As SfHU our hope is that we can empower them to raise functional families. We are already seeing hope restored in the lives of the women and children currently involved in One Mother at a Time. To develop this program, we plan to offer these women adult literacy and computer classes, practical skill trainings (such as candle making, jewelry making, etc.), and medical outreach clinics.

Therefore, we are seeking additional financial partners and volunteers to assist us in the development of One Mother at a Time. We need your help to empower more mothers toward economic self-sustainability, improved education for their child(ren) and enhanced wellbeing for their families.

child education sponsorship

Through consistent love and support of sponsors, we started the child education sponsorship program in 2014 with seven children already enrolled in the program. Serve for Hope Uganda receives requests from community members for sponsorship on a daily basis. Children are accepted into the program based upon a vulnerability assessment and home visits completed by SfHU staff. Once accepted into the program, the children are placed on a waiting list and, as funds are made available, provided with the necessary school fees. It brings us great joy to see the children enrolled in our program growing and succeeding in their studies. We still need more sponsors for these little ones and partners that can work with us to make sure that these children get a proper education. Are you interested in sponsoring a child? Contact us to learn more about children who are waiting for sponsorship!

youth outreach

The youth outreach program was implemented in March of 2015 with the purpose of empowering young people to gain self awareness so they can face daily challenges with strength and confidence and make wise decisions that benefit their future. Our team of social workers visits local primary and secondary schools with a specific theme to discuss with the students, including HIV/AIDS awareness, peer pressure, career empowerment, and other topics that affect youth. As part of the youth outreach program, we facilitate Pads for Hope outreaches, where we provide menstrual hygiene education and distribute reusable/washable pads to primary and secondary girls to empower these girls to stay in school. In addition to presenting these topics to the students, our team allows for open question and answer time and encourages students to visit our office if they are in need of counseling or mentoring services.

We believe that when young people are provided with information, they are empowered to make informed decisions and their lives are transformed. With increased funding we can develop our youth outreach program so that we can reach more schools and create an even greater impact on the future generations!
